Chronology of Chehov's life.

1860, the 17(29)*th of January. Anton Pavlovich Chehov was born in Taganrog.

1869 -1879. Studying at gymnasium.

1877. The first visit in Moscow.

1877 - 1878. "The Play without a name" ("Bezottsovschina")

1879. Chehov entered medical faculty of Moscow University.

1880, the 9th of March. The first publication "Letter from Don landowner  Stepan V.N.  to the neighbor scientist, Dr. Friedrich"(weekly magazine "Strekoza"("Dragonfly")).

1884, June. Chehov graduated from medical faculty of Moscow University. Publication of the collection of short stories "Melpomene tales. Six short stories by A. Chehonte."

1885, December. The first trip to Petersburgh. Acquaintance with A.S.Suvorin (publisher of newspaper "Novoye vremya"("New Time")).

1886, the 15th of February. The first short story by Chehov in "New Time" was printed - "Panikhida" ("Requiem").

1886. The book "Pyostriye rasskazi" ("Motley stories") was published.

1886, the 27th of August. Moving into the house on Sadovo-Kudrinskaya street.

1887, August - September. The books "V sumerkah. Ocherki i rasskazi" ("At dusk. Essays & short stories") & "Nevinniye rechi" ("Innocent speech") were published.

1887, the 19th of November. Premiere of comedy "Ivanov" in Moscow theatre of F.A.Korsh.

1888, March. A novel "Steppe" was published in a magazine "Severny vestnik"("Northern herald").

1888, May - June. F book "Short stories" was published.

1888, the 7th of October. Chehov is awarded by academical Pushkin's award for his collection "V sumerkah".

1889, the 31st of January. The first perfomance of a play "Ivanov" on the stage of Alexandrinsky theatre.

1889, the 2d of July. Chehov left for Odessa & then for Yalta after his brother's Nikolay death (June' 17). 

1890, the end of March. A collection "Gloomy people" was published.

1890, the 21th of April. Chehov left for Sahalin.

1890, the 11th of July - the 13th of September. Arrival on Sahalin.

1890, the 16th of October - the 1st of December. Chehov's return by the sea - from Vladivostok, through  Honkong, Singapore, Colombo, the Indian ocean, Suez strait & Constantinople to Odessa.

1891, March - April. A trip to Europe (visiting Vienna, Venice, Florence, Rome, Naples, Pompeii, Nice, Monte Carlo, Paris).

1891, December - 1892, February. Help the hungry peasants of Nizhny Novgorod and Voronezh provinces.

1892, the 4th of March. Transfer to Melikhovo.

1892, Summer. Treatment of patients during a cholera epidemic in the province of Tula.

1893, June - July. Finished the book "The Island of Sakhalin.

1894, the 14th of September. A trip to Europe (Vienna, Trieste, Venice, Milan, Genoa, Nice, Paris).

1895, the 8th - 9th of August. Chekhov in Yasnaya Polyana. Reading Leo Tolstoy aloud chapters novel "Resurrection."

1895, October - November. Work on the play "The Seagull."

1895, the 14th of December. Acquaintance with IA Bunina.

1896, June. Chekhov began to build a bell tower in Melikhov.

1896, the 17th of October. The first presentation of "Seagull" in Alexandrinsky theater.

1897, January - early February. Participation in the census Bavykinskoy volost Serpukhpvsko county.

1897, February - July. Construction of schools in Novoselki.

1897, the 22d of March - the 10th of April. Severe pulmonary hemorrhage.

1897, the 6th of May. Chehov granted to a bronze medal for work on the census.

1897, the 1st of September. A trip to Europe (Paris, Biaritsts).

1897, the 31st of October. Chekhov was elected a member of the Union Mutual of Russian writers and scientists.

1898, Summer. Work on the trilogy - "The man in the case", "Gooseberry", "About Love".

1898, July - August. Built in Melikhov Zemskov school.

1898, September. Getting O.L. Knipper.

1898, the 12th of October. In Moscow, after the operation died Egorovich Paul Chekhov, the father of the writer.

1898, October. Buying land in Autke (a suburb of Yalta) to build summer cottages.

1898, November - December. Collecting donations for the starving children of Samara province.

1898, the 17th of December. Premiere of "Seagull" at the Moscow Art Theater.

1899, the 17th of January. Treating with the book publishing AF Marx to publish collected works of Chekhov.

1899, the 19th of March. Introduction to Gorky.

1899, November - December. Help Muhalatskoy in building schools and raising funds to build a sanatorium for tuberculosis patients.

1899, the 6th of December. Granted the Order of St.. Stanislav third degree for a great zeal in the affairs of public education. "

1899, December. The first volume collected works of Chekhov published A.F. Marx.

1900, the 8th of January. Chekhov was elected an honorary academician of the category of fine literature.

1900, the 11th of December. A trip to Europe (Nice, Pisa, Florence, Rome).

1901, the 31st of January. Premiere of the play "Three Sisters" at the Art Theater.

1901, the 25th of May. Wedding in Moscow O.L. Knipper.

1902, the 25th of August. Sent a letter to the Academy of Sciences of the denial of an honorary academician.

1903, the beginning of December. The publication of the last story "The Bride".

1904, the 17th of January. Premiere of "The Cherry Garden" at the Art Theater.

1904, May. Publication of Chekhov - the last in his life - the play "Cherry Garden."

1904, the 3d of June. Chekhov and his wife went to Badenveyler.

1904, the 2d (15th) of July. At three o'clock in the morning Chekhov died.
